On page 42/43, Parvana and mother were not allowed to leave their home because the Taliban forbade woman from leaving. This is because they hate women and do not respect them. But they left anyways. They walked far away and reached the Pul-i-Charkhi prison to try to get Parvana's father out of prison. Mother took out a photograph of her husband and raised it in front of the guard's face. The guards snatched the picture from Mother and a guard started beating them because they were not allowed out and were not supposed to be there. The guards used sticks to beat them up and tore up the photograph. Parvana said that they would go and took the bits of the photo, stuffing them into her chador.

If you were a woman like Parvana or Mother, would you go to the Pui-i-Charkhi prison to save your dad / husband, knowing that you might get beaten?

If i were a girl i would go out to the prison and save my dad, knowing that i might get beaten. This is because I love him and he loves me.

On page 35 and 36, Parvana was wondering what was prison was like and what it looked like inside. Why was she thinking about these things? She was not comforted at all during the night since she was used to being comforted by her dad's snoring. I don't think questioning her fathers captive area is a good idea and defiantly not comforting. Why should girls be treated like this? It doesn't seem right. I wonder if the human rights activists didn't rebel.

1. Back when Parvana got back from the prison, her feet was bloody, sore and bruised. I am not sure what caused that. The book says that it is because they have NOT been out of the house for a long time. However, i still don't understand what caused it. :-(
2. Why didn't mother want to talk to them? They didn't do anything wrong, so why face the wall all day and ignore them when they told her the family was out of food? At first, i thought she was dead, but it said she moaned a bit and pulled away. Do you think this relates to the fact the she failed to get father out of prison.
3. Why couldn't Nooria buy food herself, why ask Parvana? Is that a rule or what?
